CAPE TOWN
& SURROUNDS

Cape Town Central, Cape Winelands, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa

There is no shortage of experiences that combine luxurious travel with diverse cultural activities in Cape Town. Known to South Africans as the “Mother City”, this hub of local wildlife, scenic views from every angle, and friendly locals, makes it a never ending adventure!

Visit the V & A Waterfront where you can try out a harbor tour, or enjoy a meal while you listen to live music and watch seals laze in the sun. Enjoy a picnic at Kirstenbosch National Botanical garden among it’s diverse flora, and themed gardens. Be sure to meet the penguins on Boulder’s Beach in the quaint village of  Simon’s Town, or head to the colourful suburb of BoKaap to snap a picture of the whimsical houses, and enjoy a coffee with the locals.

A coming-together of cultures, cuisines and landscapes, there’s nowhere quite like Cape Town, a singularly beautiful city crowned by the magnificent Table Mountain National Park. Capetonians don’t just watch the sunset, they celebrate it. For a front-row seat, go for cocktails at one of Camps Bay’s many bars or restaurants, or pack a picnic to enjoy on Signal Hill, or walk one of the trails on the very top of Table Mountain (the last cable car down generally leaves an hour after sunset).

Framed by sun-splashed vineyards and craggy mountain peaks, the picturesque valleys of the Cape Winelands are famous for their grand old estates, pretty little towns, award-winning wines and sort-after restaurants.

THE GARDEN ROUTE

South coast of South Africa

Where ever you are, you’ve most probably heard about the Garden Route in the Western Cape, and rightly so, for this is one of the most magnificent stretches of land in South Africa.  The indigenous forests of Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma are a blend of Cape Fynbos and Temperate Forest.  These areas offer exciting hiking trails and other eco-tourism activities.

There are almost 300 different species of bird life that can be found here, so make sure you have your binoculars handy on this trip! Stretch your legs on one of the many scenic hikes along your route. Adventure awaits when you visit the Tsitsikamma National Park in Storms River for activities like zip-lining, bungee jumping, kayaking and more. Along the route is Wilderness National Park, and is a world of lakes, rivers, estuaries and beaches against a backdrop of lush forest and lofty mountains.

The Garden Route offers you breathtaking views, a natural garden of rich, colourful vistas, with valleys and lakes, rivers and forests, a paradise for bird and nature lovers, an eco-destination deluxe, with miles upon miles of beautiful, white sandy beaches and countless things to do and explore.

As you set off from Cape Town, you’ll be on your way to some of South Africa’s richest botanical treasures.

SOUTH AFRICAN SAFARIS

Explore a majestic African landscape, and see the famous symbols of Africa – The Big 5! There’s nothing like coming face-to-face with the king of the beasts, and ending your day with champagne while listening to the gentle rumbles of the jungle, while the sun sets over the horizon.

THE KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Limpopo & Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa

The Kruger National Park has more species of large mammals than any other African game reserve (at 147 species). There are even webcams set up to observe the wildlife.

Out of the 517 species of birds found at Kruger, 253 are residents, 117 non-breeding migrants, and 147 nomads. Six of these species, have been called the “Big Six Birds”. They are the lappet-faced vulture, martial eagle, saddle-billed stork, kori bustard, ground hornbill and the reclusive Pel’s fishing owl.

The Park has 21 rest camps, as well as two private lodge concessions, and 15 designated private safari lodges. The concessions are parcels of land operated by private companies in partnership with communities, who then outsource the operation of private lodges.

Are you feeling energetic, enthusiastic and up for an exciting challenge? Then why not join the Olifants River Backpack Trail, or pick a clear day and head to God’s Window, where you can see all the way to the Kruger National Park and Mozambique for a perfect photo.

The Kruger also houses the Blyde River Canyon, also known as “River of Joy”, and is the third largest in the world, and second deepest in Africa.

Alternatively, riders will enjoy a great experience quad biking through scenic riverine areas, indigenous bush and farmlands in and around the Sabie River Valley. If you want something as bit more serene, then enjoy a taste experience at Sabie Valley Coffee that provides coffee tours, with a chance to taste the finished product at the Espresso Bar.

ST LUCIA & HLUHLUWE

Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Attractions in this region include trips to the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi game reserve, iSimangaliso wetlands park (formerly known as St Lucia Wetlands Park), swims in the warm and year-round-sunny Indian Ocean beaches (accessed through St Lucia or Sodwana bay), as well as an education in the cultural heritage of the local  Zulu people.

Permanent residents of St Lucia (Hippos) have taken to the ways of the villagers they come and go in unison without as much as a yawn or show of aggression. They are simply interested in the most valuable commodity that the town has to offer and that is Grass.

You can also  get up close with some friendly sea turtles, as you take on a relaxing Scuba & Snorkeling session with a tour guide or charter to a whale watching hot spot for a whale sighting.

Enjoy boat rides and crocodile sightings at Kwazulu Natal Wildlife Park, or head to the warm St Lucia coastline for a swim. With ample wildlife, you’re sure to catch a glimpse of Kudu bull standing tall between the grass and morning mist. They bring on a nostalgia of a once uninhabited land and it is a magical feeling.

End your day with an evening at the Ski Boat Club watching hippos both in and out the water while you enjoy sun-downers followed by a delicious dinner.
